Renovation of Barberini Multiplex

Final project for architectural acoustics and acoustic insulation

Activity

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Cinema Barberini. Officially opened in 1930, Cinema Barberini is one of the oldest in Rome, and has always been capable of innovation and renovation, with regard to both the structure and the films shown. With five technologically advanced theatres offering a top-level video and audio experience, it shows quality and original version films, and is located in one of the squares of Rome’s Dolce Vita: Piazza Barberini, at the foot of Via Veneto, a perfect meeting point for cinema buffs.

Acoustic design. The final design project for the renovation of the Barberini Multiplex involved modifying the layout of the interior to create seven different movie theatres and a top-quality food area, designed to enhance the hospitality services available to patrons of the cinema.

The acoustic consulting service consisted of integrating sound insulation packages for the vertical and horizontal partitions into the architectural project, the detailed planning of the necessary sound insulation work and a predictive evaluation of acoustic comfort in the theatres based on their new geometric design and new finishes.

Mathematical models were created for each individual space and the architectural choices were optimised with a view to achieving the best possible acoustic, technical and economic performance.
