Renovation of IBL Banca lending institution

Predictive study and consulting on architectural acoustics for the executive project.

Activity

The lending institution: IBL Banca is an Italian lending institution that heads the group of the same name, headquartered in Rome. Its origins date back to 1927, when it was founded as a financial institution. It subsequently became a bank, in 2004, and became a banking group in 2008.

In April 2021, the Group’s employees totalled more than 750. IBL Banca is present throughout Italy with 54 branches, as well as a network of agents that cover more than 110 points of sale in the country.

Acoustic design: The work consisted of a predictive evaluation of the acoustic comfort of the executive project for the business floor of the building located in Rome, comprising a conference room, a meeting room and an open-plan area composed of five reception rooms.

The aim of the consulting was to determine the architectural coverings able to guarantee a quality listening experience and acoustic comfort in the areas established, while maintaining a high standard in terms of the finishing elements. The aim of the consulting was to determine the architectural coverings able to guarantee a quality listening experience and acoustic comfort in the areas established, while maintaining a high standard in terms of the finishing elements. Based on the uses envisaged for the rooms, the study established the optimal acoustic performance requisites according to the technical standards in the sector, verified the architectural coverings based on their acoustic properties, and identified different types of performance solutions as an alternative to the executive project.

To this end, the rooms were studied using all the instruments and operating procedures known for the study of the acoustic behaviour of a closed space: the statistical method, with a predictive calculation of reverberation time using the Sabine formula, and the geometric method, modelling all the various spaces with a dedicated software.

By comparing the results obtained with both methods, it was possible to minimise forecast error and to establish the most suitable material for the construction of the suspended ceilings, so that the architectural coverings as a whole are able to combine technical performance with an attractive appearance. Specifically, the study selected and verified Fellert, in the Silk finish: a product with excellent sound-absorbing properties, in acoustic absorption class A, with αW = 0.95 and a top-quality finish, in order to combine acoustic comfort with an attractive finish, in keeping with the architectural project on the whole.

The consulting service was completed with an instrumental study to evaluate the adequacy of the insulation levels of the dividing walls on the executive office floor, and the noise impact report was drawn up for the new food area for the business floor.
